Pocatello Valley Montessori School provides enriching, child-centered education. Imagine your child so focused on discoveries about language, math, science, art, and music that he or she “forgets” this is school. This is what happens in a Montessori class: children engage in interactive learning in an environment carefully crafted to work with children’s natural curiosity.

The Montessori Method is a hands-on approach that builds on children’s natural desire to learn. Pupils work at their own pace, using concrete materials that represent abstract concepts. Unlike traditional schools where students rotate subjects at set times, our school encourages students to focus on each learning task until they fully grasp the concept.

When you visit a Montessori classroom, you’ll see children sorting, stacking, and manipulating all sorts of beautiful objects made of a range of materials and textures. Many of these objects are made of smooth polished wood. Others are made of enameled metal, glass, wicker, and fabric.

Built-in “control of error” in many of the materials enables the child to discover if he has done the exercise correctly. A teacher never has to correct his work. He can try again, ask another child for help, or ask a teacher for suggestions.

Our school offers three Pocatello Montessori programs: a Toddler Program, a combined Preschool and Kindergarten for children ages 3 to 6, and Lower Elementary for children 6 to 9. As a leader among private schools and preschools in Pocatello, our approach builds a strong academic foundation as each individual child engages in the learning process from her unique perspective.

Our motto is “Think Beyond the Desk,” because children learn best when they are engaged hands-on in a task — and that happens often, but not always at a desk. Children are stimulated and empowered as they explore our Montessori curriculum that includes everything from practical life skills to imaginative cosmic education, from peace and conflict resolution to academic subjects.
